Thursday, October 18: Grand Teton National Park

Today I went to Grand Teton National Park; the Grand Teton stands at over 13,000 in the Teton Range. There were lakes, trails, rivers, streams and the mountains themselves to keep me occupied as well as an abundance of wildlife. I spent hours just roaming the park. I also went down a road named Mormon Row where there was a herd of bison just chilling in the field. Farther down were a bunch of old barns from a Mormon settlement, it was pretty neat but cold as hell when that wind whipped through there.

After that, I went to the Gross Ventre Slide area. Back in 1945, the largest landslide in world history took place here and the remnants are still very visible. I took a hike down the mountain to the base of the lake and there debris is still all over the place. The side of the mountain where the slide took place still has exposed dirt and rock that can be seen for miles. It was crazy, but really interesting to read about and see in person.

On my way back on the trail, a heavy snowstorm was moving in and snow began to fall all around. It was just gorgeous. I headed back to Jackson in search of a hot bowl of soup to warm me up. I ate at the Silver Dollar Restaurant in the historic Wort Hotel. I finished off the night watching my beloved Red Sox win the game against Cleveland forcing two more games back at Fenway Park. Hell freaking yeah. Go RED SOX!!!
