Today I set aside the whole day for the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They opened at 10:00 am and I got there around 10:30. It's a good thing I went on Friday because they stay open an extra three hours and lord knows I needed it! I didn't leave until 7:15 and I only left then out of shear exhaustion, I was on my feet all day and hadn't even stopped to pee!!! I got the audio tour so that I could listen to highlights at my own speed, it was well worth the $5 but I didn't even listen to everything because there wasn't enough time.
I was blown away by all of the artwork that surrounded me...Warhol, DuChamp, Brancusi, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Boticelli, Renoir, Pisarro, Mondrian, Eakins, Singer-Sargeant and so much more. It was amazing to see up close and in person all of the work I studied and admired in books. I think was actually suffering from art overload by the end of it all. In the future, I would recommend taking two days to really enjoy everything because I spent a whole day there "rushing" parts of it.
To top it all off, I visited the museum store and bought seven art books!!! I just couldn't help myself, but those f-ing books were so heavy on that long walk back and my feet were already killing me from the day. Still, those books were worth every pain-tinged step!
Since I spent the entire day at the PMOA, I missed the Rodin Museum. I'm going there tomorrow instead and I can't wait! I love, love, LOVE sculpture and Rodin is one of my favorites. The camera will be ready, I'm giddy just thinking about it. And after the long day, I'm freaking exhausted. It's pouring down rain outside and I'm going to head to bed.
And by the way, there are 72 steps on the east entrance of the museum, aka the Rocky Run. Yeah bitches, yeah. Eye of the tiger my friends. :D
