Monday, October 8: Kettle Creek SP, Pennsylvania

The drive to Kettle Creek State Park was beautiful. The trees were taking on their fall colors and the scenic byways had me meandering through the Pocono Mountains. I pulled into the park and was immediately greeted by the camp host, Tom. Tom and his wife, Kate, have been hosting at Kettle Creek for 16 years now and they were quick to invite me to sit around their campfire with them later in the evening. I paid my money for the night, set up camp, and joined the rest of the campers around the fire. They were all retirees ranging in age from their late 60s to their mid 70s. They thought it was great that I was embarking on this trip and the women all noted that my mother must be worried sick!

I noticed that these Pennsylvanians pronounce creek as crick, and tried not to chuckle whenever they said it. I had a great time with them and decided that I would spend another day here to relax and enjoy the setting.
