September 27: Promised Land to Boston

I woke up this morning to a light rain and the first thing I thought of was having to pack up a wet tent, that's no good. I initially was going to get up early and get everything together before getting on the road, but then I figured "why bother." I was in no rush and i have the luxury of taking my time. So I put my iPod on and fell back to sleep.

Once I was up, around 8:30 or so, I got up and made some chocolate truffle coffee to have with my Pop-Tarts...breakfast of champions. Then, I took my sweet time packing up the car and breaking down the tent before waking my way to the showers. It was a nie leisurely morning void of any pressure or stress.

I got on the road around noon and made my way east to Boston with a detour to a Saturn dealership in Danbury, Connecticut for a quick oil change. The service manager was a cutie, very easy on the eyes. He "squeezed" me in after some friendly banter about being a long way from Florida and I was in and out in less than 30 minutes! Awesome.

And then I hit Massachusetts, the home of crazy freaking drivers and they didn't disappoint. Boston is known for it's overcrowded roads and nutty drivers and I encountered both during the afternoon rush hour traffic. Made me wish I had killed time by stopping for lunch instead of having that handful of trail mix. Oh well.

This is the only place that I know of where people are allowed to drive in the breakdown lane during specified times. Let me see if I can paint you a visual... there's four regular lanes of traffic moving in your direction and things go from creeping by to semi-regular speed and if you're in the right lane, suddenly a car comes whizzing by you on the right and then slams on the brakes! It was crazy. And then it got worse near on ramps and exit ramps...I was just praying that no one would get hit. I think I lost about five years of my life on that one.

Anywho, my cousin and her son just got home, so I want to go see them. Laters!
